WFMW - Shopping for Barbie

Y'all, I have a lot of girls. Three, to be exact, plus me. Plus the friends that come to visit, plus the cousins...you get the picture.

And my lot of girls have lots of Barbies. Lots. Of. Barbies. So many that we have placed a moratorium on further Barbie purchases.

Here's the thing, people. No matter how gorgeous Barbie is on that shelf in the store, give my girls 24 hours, and she's gonna be naked in a tub with frizzy hair. Mermaidia Barbie? She's naked in the bathroom. Fairytopia Barbie? Naked with frizzy orange hair and a breastplate. Sleeping Beauty Barbie? Looks like she's been rode hard and put up wet.

So. Moratorium on Barbie purchases. But there are currently around 20 of the anatomically impossible bimbos in residence, along with their wardrobes, horses, cars and accoutrement. And the Queen of Dirty Laundry can not stand Barbie crap all over the floor. It makes me itch.

So. The last time the girls had a friend over to play, which somehow causes them to lose their ever lovin' minds, I unveiled my master plan for Barbie domination. They brought all the containers of clothes, shoes, and accessories to my bedroom, where I was hard at work reading blogs. And I told them that if Barbie wanted new clothes, then she had to come shop in my bedroom.

Y'all, it worked. All the clothes and shoes stayed in their boxes! There were none on the floor! And the girls thought it was great fun to come shop for Barbie's clothes in my bedroom, One Outfit At A Time!

Granted, this little tip will only be beneficial for those with Barbie overload or OCD like I have. But, it Works For Me.

There are lots more tips over at Shannon's. Go check 'em out!

What a cute idea! Having only a boy at this point, I don't have to worry about Barbie overload. But if we ever adopt a little girl, I'll keep this tip in mind. :)

I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND! I have three girls too and the Barbie madness takes over the whole room! So far I have controlled the Barbie population by going through them at least once a year and taking out any that miss a body part, have messed up hair, or are just not played with. I get keep the objections to a min by telling them they can't have any new ones until there's room. Sure it might sound like they live in China, but they don't know any better so it works for me! ;-)

P.S. First time reader and I gotta tell ya, you.are.funny!

My oldest daughter (now 11) was never into Barbies. I was so sad because I loved them and would play for hours. My three year old is also not really showing an interest. Can it be I may avoid Barbie domination all togehter? We will have to wait and see.

Have a great day!

I hated Barbies growing up, but my three sisters loved them. So I anticipate at some point my three year old will catch on to the magic. This is a really great tip. I will file it away for that fateful day. :)

What a good idea! After the cousins leave, it looks like the Barbie tubs threw up all over our playroom. And ours all hang out naked in the bathtub too.

You're hilarious! I love it. I have in fact placed a moratorium on Legos in our house! We have too many. No more. I step on them when I go to the basement, and it hurts! When I vacuum, I'm constantly bending down to pick up Legos. So, I'm with you.

What a great idea! I'll probably need to use this soon. We haven't allowed our girls to have Barbies yet (we thought they were too young) but I can sense that our own Great Barbie Invasion will be coming in the not too distant future.

I understand! We only have a few barbies so far but we have tons of beauty shop toys and kitchen toys and matchbox cars and army men and ugh!!!

Ya know...not only would that work for Barbie's, but any other doll...like all the Bitty Baby stuff my 6 year old tends to get out all over her room...and my son could adapt that to his Thomas the Tank stuff...new tracks and buildings, etc...GREAT TIP!!!

THANKS!

Brillant, Lori! I'm going to have to do that with my girls.

Somehow our Barbies always end up naked with matted hair too, by the way. I'm definitely not buying any more in the near future either.

Shopping for Polly Pocket outfits might be another brainstorm of an idea. Can't stand those tiny little things everywhere.

PS - my broken toe is doing much better this week, thank you.

Very good tip. My little girl isn't quite at the Barbie age yet but I will definitely be filing this away for future reference.

Blessings~

Great idea! We'll have to try this next time Princess has a little friend over to play. . .

Hysterical! This would totally work at my house (once my daughter discovers Barbie).
